Adele's speech cut off at BRIT Awards, gives the middle finger gesture to cameras

WMM ( World Music Masterider)Adele won two trophies last night at the 2012 BRIT Awards, but saluted her speech interruption with a middle finger gesture. After winning two weeks ago six Grammy Awards, Adele scooped last night Best British Female beating out Florence and the Machine, Jessie J, Kate Bush and Laura Marling and Best British Album award. "It's been an amazing year," she gushed after receiving the award from Kylie Minogue. "I feel like a drag queen next to you," she jokingly told the presenter who stood tall towering her. She thanked her record label "for letting me be the kind of artist I want to be."

"Thank you very, very much. Nothing makes me prouder than coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year. I'm so proud to be British and to be flying the flag and to be in the same room as all of you," a breathless Adele excitedly said about her winning the Best British Album award. But the BRITs presenter, James Corden, was given the awful task of cutting Adele off because the live show was overrunning and Blur needed to begin their 11 minute set. He look mortified as he said: "I'm so so sorry, I can't believe I'm going to do this...", moment when Adele finished her speech with the obscene gesture, echoing M.I.A's hand gesture during her performance at the Super Bowl with Madonna and Nicki Minaj.

Later, speaking at the winners conference she said: "Can I just say sorry for swearing? I flung the middle finger at the suits, not the fans, I want people to know that. Sorry if I offended anyone, but the people in suits offended me. I wasn't swearing at the fans, but I didn't get to complete my thank you speech!" As soon as she could Adele made very clear she was aiming her hand towards the 'suits' and not her fans. She told she was thrilled to win two awards on home soil: "I'm over the moon to win these awards, they are so important to me. Selling 20 million albums goes over my head. When I performed at Shepherds Bush, I just think all the people there own it."

Other winners of the night included Coldplay (Best British Group), One Direction (Best British Single), Foo Fighters (Best International Group), and Bruno Mars (Best International Male). Outstanding Achievement Award went to Blur, and Critics' Choice Award was handed to Emeli Sande.
